IELTS is an English proficiency examination held after every 2 months at various locations in India. TOEFL can be taken on any Saturday or Sunday in a year at almost all the major cities in India...

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Three years Diploma in nursing OR BSc. Nursing

  • Must be a registered Nurse

  • Eligible without experience but 2 years experience preferred

  • Proficiency in Spoken English


Details of Exams to be cleared:

  1. IELTS or TOEFL - The candidate can appear for any of these 2 exams. IELTS is an English proficiency examination held after every 2 months at various locations in India. TOEFL can be taken on any Saturday or Sunday in a year at almost all the major cities in India.

  2. CGFNS - This is a professional exam for nursing held 3 times in a year (March, July and September) at Bangalore, Cochin and New Delhi. Examination expenses are $295

  3. NCLEX (RN) - This is another professional exam held in the US. The candidate has to clear NCLEX examination within six months after reaching USA. Expenses include
    CES (Credential Evaluation) fees of $265 and Examination Fees of $150


Nursing Jobs in the US:

  • After clearing IELTS and CGFNS the candidate is eligible to immigrate to the US and take a job there with starting salary of $20- $25 per hour.

  • Applicant can appear for NCLEX directly after passing IETLS. An applicant with both these can work in nine states of the USA where CGFNS is not compulsory.

  • The candidate who has passed both the exams can work throughout the United States and draws higher salary by $2 - $3 per hour as compared to one who has just passed NCLEX(RN) exam.

  • The starting salary will be around $40, 000 per annum which is very good compared to American salary standards. Converting to Indian rupees it comes up to around 1.5 lacks per month. This salary goes up with your number of years of experience in nursing.


Other Important Points:

  • How much to Pay: Candidate will have to pay $4000 towards attorney fee and other related fees in 12 equal installments once he/she starts working in the USA. If the candidate successfully clears the IELTS, CGFNS and NCLEX (RN) exams and join service in the US the expenses of these exams will be refunded.

  • Contract Period: The contract period is for 3 years.

  • Tax and insurance deductions will be done as per the American Govt. Policies

Other benefits:

  • One gets 2 weeks paid vacation and 11 days sick leave per year

  • One way air ticket for the candidate

  • Visa for husband and children

  • If the candidate is unmarried she can file Visa for his/her parents after reaching the US


Check list of documents to be submitted by the candidate:

  • Candidate’s resume

  • Copy of marks sheet of each year of Nursing

  • Nursing transcript from College

  • Copy of Nursing Council Registration

  • Marks Sheet and Certificates of 10th and 12th standard

  • Marriage Certificate (If applicable)

  • Copy of valid Passport

  • Photos (2X2 – 4 photos, passport size – 12 photos)

  • Finger print Card – This card is prepared by the Crime branch of Police in India which must be taken in black ink only. It goes to FBI (Federal Bureau of investigation)

Please provide 2 sets of the above documents.

About CGFNS:

  1. Application filed by nurses along with demand draft of US $ 295 in favor of CGFNS payable at Philadelphia

  2. Nursing school will directly send transcripts in a sealed cover after the nurse has applied for CGFNS. The transcript sent by the candidate will not be accepted

  3. Nursing Registration Council will send the transcripts showing details of registration and a sealed cover directly to CGFNS

  4. CGFNS will send you your I.D. number and Roll number of receiving all documents

  5. The exam contains 2 papers each containing 180 questions. The maximum marks are 800 and passing marks are 400

  6. The result is available within 10 weeks of the date of examination

About NCLEX (RN):

  • CES (Credential evaluation) is done by CGFNS

  • Nursing school will directly send transcripts in a sealed cover after the nurse has applied for CGFNS. The transcript sent by the candidate will not be accepted

  • Nursing Registration Council will send the transcripts showing details of registration and a sealed cover directly to CGFNS

  • CGFNS will send you your I.D. number

  • Application for US State Nursing Board will be submitted along with IELTS certificate

  • NCLEX (RN) exam and registration fees will be sent in co-operation with PEARSON-VUE for RN exam to get ATT(Authorization to Test)

  • The applicant will choose the date and get ATB (Authorization to Board) to travel to SAIPAN / GUAM, US territories at pacific ocean near Philippines

  • He applicant can also appear for NLCEX-Rn exam in the USA

  • Each US state has its own registration fee ranging from $100 to $150

NCLEX is an online computer based exam. It starts with 75 multiple choice questions to be completed in 75 minutes. These 75 questions do not carry equal marks, instead the grading is done depending on the uqation.

One has to attempt all questions in serial order. One can’t skip any question and to the next one. Similarly one can’t revisit the previous question.

If the desired level of accuracy (50%) is achieved in first 75 questions, the test will stop. Otherwise it will go on as follows:

  • 100 questions - 100 minutes

  • 150 questions - 150 minutes

  • 200 questions - 200 minutes

  • 265 questions - 265 minutes

As a matter of fact about 90% of the nurses appearing for NCLEX exam pass the exam within 100 questions itself.
