With a target to triple the number of Indian students in its universities, France has been adapting its courses to requirements of international students and offers over 80 percent courses in English.

The number of Indian students which was a mere 600 four years ago has gone up to 2000 last year, according to consul-general of France, Dominique Causse. "We are now targeting 6000 students. Probably south India is the place to look for best students as so many advanced institutions are located here," observed Causse.

France spends around 20 percent of its annual budget on education and the sought-after courses are bio-technology, engineering, business and management, fashion studies, law, fine arts, science and technology and space sciences. Another unique feature of French higher education is that the government reimburses 40 percent accommodation expenses incurred by national and international students, said Causse."France has nearly 400 internationally renowned educational institutions. Most scientific research is carried out by designated research institutes. While France is also a cheaper education destination, degrees and certificates provided by French universities are recognised all over the world," pointed out education adviser, Campus France, Vasudha Muralikrishna.

Campus France helps aspiring students chose the right courses and universities, helps with immigration and getting accommodation in France. "While it is not mandatory for students to learn French to join any course, most courses have in-built lessons in French. These help students become fluent in French by the time they complete their course. Tuition fees in France are lower by one-fourth when compared to the US and UK," she said.
